Pouch packing machines cover a wide range of technologies within packaging automation equipment. These pouch machines use film to create a flexible package as opposed to ridged packaging such as tubs, jars, pails buckets, jugs etc. There are many ways to form a pouch from flexible film. Below is a simplified outline of the types of pouch filling machines and some descriptions of how the packaging equipment is combined with other equipment to create an integrated and automated packaging system. Pouch packing machines are generally divided between Horizontal or Vertical packaging machines. Both vertical pouch machines and horizontal pouch machines will use either pre-made pouches or will form fill and seal pouches. Machines that use pre-made pouches as a starting point in the packaging process will open fill and seal those pre-made pouches. These are referred to as pre-made pouch machines. Form fill and seal machines start with a web of film to form, fill and seal the product. The most common types of pouch machines are described below.
